Put on your fancy shoes and GO RIDE A BICYCLE!!

In fits of fashion, I have posted and re-posted about a wonderful blog called Copenhagen Cycle Chic. I always point new cyclists there, just to show them that:
  • YES, you can ride a bike in heels
  • YES, you can ride a bike in a skirt
  • YES, you can ride a bike in style

Don't believe me? Please visit, Exhibit A, Exhibit B and Exhibit C.

These are not models or set-ups. These are snap-shots taken during day-to-day life in Copenhagen.

But just how many people are riding bicycles in style anyway? Well..

*This is the result of a "back-up" from waiting for a drawbridge.

NOW do you believe me? Okay, moving on.

A more recent CYCLE CHIC blog favorite of mine is Bikes and the City, by Meligrosa. She is not only adorable as heck with a fashion sense to admire-- but she lives in SAN FRANCISCO!

We've got a chic lady on OUR team! :D

Now, to show off some fantastic Bikes and the City shots:

So GO! Put on your fancy shoes and GO RIDE A BICYCLE!!

Copenhagnizing the Winter

I haven't posted any Copenhagen praise for a while. Now that it's the heart of winter, I think it's good time to check in with our friends at Copenhagen Cycle Chic.

This is how you look fetching.

When it's Zero degrees C.

Yep.

This could be you.

In the US..
25% of all trips are within 1 mile of home.
40% of all trips are within 2 miles of home.
50% of the working population commutes 5 miles or less to work.

Yet..
More than 82% of all trips 5 miles ore less are made by personal motor vehicle.

But you work farther away than 5 miles?..
Take a bus, train or car part way and cycle the rest.

You'll get sweaty or wet?..
Ask for a shower to be installed at work, ride slower, and there are lots of handy gadgets out there to keep you try (fenders, rain cape, cute rubber boots, etc).

You don't want to look goofy?..
The info & photo above is from Copenhagen Cycle Chic, a website devoted to style over speed on bicycles. There you will find photo after photo of chic women riding their bikes in heels.

So.. you want to bike commute but don't know where to start? Try these classes!:

Copenhagenize!

One of the bike blogs I read is Copenhagenize.com, a site that celebrates Copenhagen's brilliant bike culture. Their busiest bike lane sees 35,000 cyclists PER DAY. To better illustrate that point, watch THIS sort video from Copenhagenize's sister site (or at least I think of it as a sister site) Copenhagen Cycle Chic. First count how many bikes go by. Then count the cars.

Amazing.

A few pictures from Copenhagen Cycle Chic.. these are real everyday people, not model shots.

You don't need spandex to ride a bike!!

Copenagen Cycle Chic

So first I was hanging out at Copenhagenize.com, a blog on bicycle (commuting) culture in Copenhagen. I learned that Copenhagen's busiest bike lane sees 35,000 cyclists per day! WOW! But the thing you've got to realize is that not all the cyclists are stinky hippies like me. No, EVERYBODY rides bikes over there. Even the super chic.

Introducing: Copenhagen Cycle Chic. Who said you couldn't wear heeled boots on a bike?

Even chilly weather doesn't deter these ladies!
